Paul Morris steps down as CEO of Atlanta BeltLine Inc.
Quote:
Atlanta Loop has confirmed that Beltline CEO Paul Morris is leaving after four years on the job.

The Atlanta Beltline Inc. board held a closed meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 23 shortly before the announcement. The board voted to hire Brian McGowan to replace him. McGowan is a principal with the global law firm Dentons.
In his 4 years, he has added 4 miles to the trail.

It’s not yet clear whether Morris will receive a severance.

If ABI were to terminate Morris without cause, he will be entitled to a severance worth six months of his salary, according to his contract. Records obtained by Atlanta Loop show Morris received a 29.6 percent increase in his base salary shortly before his future with the organization publicly came into question. ABI’s attorney said ABI approved a new contract for Morris in June, but it had not been executed as of Aug. 21. It set Morris’ base salary at $285,200. His contract from 2013 sets a base salary of $220,000.

Nothing will change. McGowan was over Invest Atlanta, who is over Atlanta Beltline, during the majority of the time this lack of effort to execute affordable housing occurred (2011-2014) before running over to Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and recently Dentons. However, you can fall for that bait and switch if you like to...

“It’s no secret that we have gotten off-center. The BeltLine is an exciting project and it’s supposed to be about the people, it’s supposed to be about communities, but we’ve gotten off-center,” said Clyde Higgs, COO of Atlanta BeltLine, Inc., the entity that oversees the planning and execution of the 22-mile trail that’s set to ring the central city.
He was speaking as part of a regular BeltLine update to the board of Invest Atlanta, the city’s economic development agency. He said he was making the remarks at the request of new BeltLine President and CEO Brian McGowan, who was away with a family emergency.
“Everything that you see coming from ABI in the future is going to have that focus of community, people, inclusion, equity, affordability. We’re going to hit everybody over the head with those words,” said Higgs.

Seriously? It's not just a sidewalk. There is grading, drainage, utilities, prepping for transit, connections to grade separated corridors and private sites. PATH400 is a sidewalk compared to the BeltLine.

They literally prepped it for transit, with power infrastructure, grading, etc. all being set up on the Westside trail for light rail to be installed.

Don't forget brownfield remediation and industrial clean up along the corridor and for parks.

I admire some folks optimism but the chances of transit happening on the majority of the beltline in our lifetime seem low. I did the westside tour and our guide even said as much.

I believe I was hearing the same thing about the Beltline itself 15 years ago.

Look I'd love to be proved wrong (and I really hope I am).
