As we all know the arena is in the midst of its biggest renovation in its history. The Hawks are also in the midst of its first major rebuild in decades with a new general manager and ownership. With that being said, Phillips is not expected to renew naming rights to the venue. With the entire organization going through a much needed makeover to include the arena, I would love to see a new, exciting and ambitious name, one that can help propel the venue into the future. How does the name "The Chick-Fil-A Forum" sound? What other names make sense for the venue?

I think it should be more decidedly Atlanta.

Southern Nights Arena.
2 Chainz Center.
Magic City Forum.
Swinging Richards Center.
Cheshire Motor Inn Coliseum.

...about as disjointed from the main function of the facility as 'Quicken Loans Arena'.

NCR has no natural connection either, but NCR Arena doesn't sound bad.

Coca-Cola Coliseum? The CoCo?

If only the Falcons were now playing in The Amazon.

Nothing can be worse than the 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheater.

Philips paid $185M back in 1999 and could command an even higher price now, but I'm willing to bet that the city threw in the naming rights in the bid to lure Amazon's HQ2.

Eat-Mor-Chikin arena.... equally disjointed, but would be both more interesting and advertise just as well as chik-fil-a.

Coca Col-iseum

But hey... if all goes well maybe its future sponsor could name it Prime Arena and we can add a big backlit orange swoop smiley along the sidewalk so it appears just below the "ATLANTA" Collonade.

This contract expiration coincides with the expiration and renewal of the Hawks contract, which meant the arena is getting over $190m in renovation after negotiations.

Many of the renovations will be themed for the main arena sponsor and sub-sponsors.

I find it doubtful this will be packaged and given away. They need to money.

Most corporate lures are packaged not as giving money outright, but giving tax breaks. The assumption is the only way the new company would come is with the tax breaks and the city isn't really losing much or paying actual money. They just aren't taking on extra revenue and have to provide the same amount of city services to the new company as the old property-owners.

Otherwise, it would be very hard for the city to actually find the $190m to do the renovation, since that must be paid out by the city dollar for dollar.

This is Georgia.

Lawmakers would promise the first born son of every resident for the next 100 years if they thought it would get Amazon here.

That's actually not quite true when it comes to the film industry. They are given tax credits, which they don't even use and often sell to other companies. That does take money away. They could do the same thing with Amazon, offering tax credits that are higher than the company would ever pay so they can sell them to other companies and then the revenue goes in to Amazon's pocket instead of public coffers.

At least, that's how I understand it.
