Viewpoint: Atlanta may lose the Peach Drop at Underground | ABC

I think moving it to Centennial Park could be a better fit than Underground. At least for the near future.

I would really like to see GWCCA take over the Peach drop and work with the ACS to have it happen on the top of their building overlooking Centennial Olympic Park. It would also be a great place for a tree lighting ceremony

That space is very accessible and can accommodate more people and larger festivities.

COP is a better venue for crowd control and offers better sight lines. What about a coke drop at World of Coke?

If the new owners of Underground truly care about Atlanta as a community, they will leave it be. It needs to stay where it is if possible. Otherwise, take the tower to a city owned property and do it there. I feel Plaza Park directly in front of city hall is a good place.

Interesting concept.

There is some truth that finding a corporate backer of a home town company that has a business model on extensive brand awareness is the best way to save something with private cash. It is well positioned and could be mutually beneficial for the community and Coca-Cola.

I just hope it remains the 'peach drop.'

Bingo. Being able to split the east-west and north-south MARTA traffic would be a bonus too. Plus, there's much more space (and visibility from hotels) at Centennial Olympic Park.

COP seems like a natural home for the event as UA is redeveloped. I'm wondering if this is a thing that's not an issue yet because UA hasn't set a construction start date. It seems like it would be pretty simple to transition. Then again, I've never actually been to a Peach Drop, so I don't know if there's something that makes UA much more of a home for it.

Move it to the park.

Set up a stage and have a concert afterwards.

Right now, the peach drops and then the second it's done, everybody just packs up and goes home. Ringing in the new year should entail spending the first hour or two doing something really fun!

Wouldn't be a bad idea at all, though the music could start before, and then maybe an hour after. You'd have to do something about MARTA shutting down at 1 am, though. I wonder if a special, extended holiday operation would be an option. How do they deal with it now?
