I think 2 am is the standard for most big cities.

I think some of y'all are confusing a law MANDATING staying open 24 hours with one ALLOWING it.

Exactly.

Bars should be allowed to be open until at least 4am. I also like the allowance of 24 hours.

Or a compromise--6am.

I'm not sure if the person is trying to be judgemental. I typically don't want it to reach 4 a.m. and I'm still at a bar. I guess if you have a hotel very near to the bar but I start thinking about how I'm going to make it home. After a long night of drinking, I'd think a person would be very very tired by that time.

I don't judge though. I've certainly been out all night before.

I'd say they do.
But mostly I mind my own business about that stuff.

It isn't about what I want. People should be able to do all this and stay out at night if they want

We need to get away with questioning how other people are entertained. The same people who questions why someone is out at 4am probably has watched porn online lately, smoked weed or drunk alcohol lately, cursed, lusted after someone, cheated on their taxes, etc but that's ok to them but someone staying out to 4am is bad. People need to stop being hypocrites.

Same people dont realize the money alcohol/bar revenue bring to the city to help pay the salaries of teachers, firefighters, etc. Those same people will get mad if the city raise taxes to help pay their salary but will still question a guaranteed revenue stream of bar sales that help pay their salaries

This is the Bible Belt. I'm forever having to deal with people's sense of moral superiority and so I get the feeling. When people on this forum were trashing those who have sex in the park at Piedmont, I said HEY...are you all so "pure" that you haven't done anything freaky before?

No, I don't pick and choose that way.

We live in a (relatively) free country, but the fact that something is legal or that you can get away with it doesn't make it a positive thing.

If there are benefits to boozing until 4 am, I'm open to hearing them.

Depends what time you start boozing. There are a lot of jobs where you don't get off work until 2 am, so4 am or 24 hour bars would accommodate those types of schedules. Having somewhere to go for a couple drinks and socializing after work is generally considered beneficial to one's happiness.

Also, most bars close right after last call, or maybe 30 minutes after. Of course they do, you can't stay profitable if you aren't pouring.

So here's the problem: Everyone tries to drink as much as they can before last call. Then, they are forced out of the building, most frequently to find their ways home. You're basically forcing drunks onto the road. Hopefully they will all use Uber...but we know they wont.

24 hour pouring is the only solution that makes sense, unless you mandate that bars stay open for at least 2 hours after they stop pouring alcohol so people can sit around drinking Diet Cokes and waters until they sober up. But it's much better to allow them to continue serving alcohol so they may serve others who are just getting there without kicking out people who are just trying to sober up.

What are the benefits? Less DUIs because people will wait until they sober up before they get into the car instead of being rushed to their car, more money for bartenders, security, etc. More tax revenue for the city. More tax revenue for city services. More business for late night restaurants. More eyes on the street. Etc. I know you dont care about other people but everyone isn't fortunate to have a white collar job. Some people work at night at bars for additional income. Some people work these jobs as their main income and this will give them a big pay raise. Stop being selfish and looking down on people with jobs that you dont agree with. Those people would be ok with you getting a pay raise at your job but you are looking down on them and wanting them to not get a guaranteed pay raise. Shame on you...smh
I agree that it should be 24 hours, but all these comparisons are non-starters.
