Hi, we're planning to move to north Fulton/Forsyth area and looking at high schools Northview, Johns creek, Chattahochee, Alpharetta high and south Forsyth. It seems Northview is highly competitive based on the reviews. Is it too hard for a new comer? I would rather have some level of competition and good learning experience. Any thoughts on the above schools?

Have you considered Milton? Either Milton High or Cambridge.

There’s a big difference between Johns Creek and Forsyth in terms of commute, where will you be working?

Also, Alpharetta will be getting a new STEM high school in 2020.

Northview has a reputation of being intensely academically competitive and even rigorous in some circles.

Northview has a reputation of being a school where parents turn to when they want their children to be well prepared to deal with college/university-level academic work and course loads.

Some families have complained of the academic workloads and testing being too much at a school like Northview.

Johns Creek has a reputation of being highly socially competitive in some key circles.

Chattahoochee has a reputation of the being the most academically and socially well-rounded as well as being the most socially inclusive.

Alpharetta also has a history of being a school that offers a very high-quality academic curriculum along with a high level of academic/social well roundedness and social inclusion.

South Forsyth is a very good school that continues to rise in quality towards eventual excellence with a social environment that likely has gotten a little more tame after the opening of the new Denmark High School as a reliever that lowered the population of an apparently overcrowded South Forsyth High School from more than 3,400 students during the 2017-18 school year to almost exactly 2,600 students during the current school year.

Like other posters have alluded to, the highly affluent Milton, Cambridge and Lambert high schools, and the brand-spanking-new Denmark High School are all high-quality schools that you could consider taking a look at during your school search in North Fulton and South Forsyth counties.

Northview and Johns Creek are intensely academic. Alpharetta and Milton high have very good academics but they are more well rounded.

Don't forget Cambridge. Cambridge even better than Milton in academics.

If North Fulton, also look into:

Roswell High
Centennial High

Two excellent high schools with stellar reputations and high-quality academics.

Northview is pretty diverse and Asians makeup 53% of the population, Johns Creek High is only 27% Asian.

Speaking of the Asian population Alpharetta, Lambert and South Forsyth have very fast growing Asian populations. I would not be surprised if Lambert becomes 50-60% Asian in the next five to six years. South Forsyth and Denmark will be at least 35-40% Asian in four to five years.

Elementary and middle school feeders to Alpharetta have seen a fast growing Asian population in recent years. Creek View Elementary which feeds into Alpharetta has grew from 30% Asian to 53% Asian in 3 years.
