Hi,
relocating from colder climes and looking at two houses.

House A has awesome interior, with large kitchen, etc, screened in porch and almost no yard or other outdoor space.

House B has smaller, older interior, but awesome large screened in porch, deck and a large yard, next to parkland.

Is the weather good enough to be outdoors a significant part of the year or is it either too cold or too humid?

If you are protected from mosquitos, yes. Pleasant weather in spring (we're having a late spring this year). After you get acclimated, in the summer as well.

Go with your heart! Either one sounds lovely and you will discover that there are plenty of indoor spaces and outdoor spaces here to offset whichever one you select.

If both of them got offers today; which one would you be most sad about losing? Go with that one.

With a screened in porch (with a ceiling fan!), you could probably enjoy 9 months of the year outside.

I spend LOTS of time outdoors: I LOVE gardening and I have three VERY active children that have baseball games and love playing outside. Fall and Spring here are long and lovely; winters here do have a few frigid, overcast days, and even a few snow days thrown in most years, but they are generally mild and easy to take and brief (think Mid December to Mid March, usually) The true heat of summer here is June, July, and August. I get by doing my outside exercise in the mornings on our enviable and shady PATH system here in Clayton County. On hot afternoons, we all retreat to my lovely shady yard and porches or even veg out in the air conditioning in front of the television. I will admit that as a Native Southerner/ Atlantan, that perhaps I am more acclimated to the heat than you are, but to me our summers are not too hard to take if you stay out of the sun in the hotter part of the day. The screened porch is GREAT and will get lots of use, especially if it has a ceiling fan. It makes dining outside pleasurable, particularly if you have a lovely backyard to enjoy (like me ;0) ) It will keep you from being bothered by mosquitoes and other bugs.

By the way, as you probably already guessed, I would DEFINITELY take the house with the larger yard near the parkland, since I already live in a very similar type house in the Lake Spivey community of Clayton County (Atlanta Southside suburb) Both have a screened porch, and that is a VERY good thing, too, in Metro Atlanta and it will get LOTS of use (really April through October around here).

During June, July and August - you will find yourself planning many of your outdoor activities early in the day to avoid the full sun.

I’d go option B for sure! But do what feels right for you.

We had a similar decision and went with the better lot / outdoor life. Easy decision for us n

I find it pleasant outside about 8 or 9 months of the year and spend significant time outside 10 months of the year. Originally from northeast. However, if you only like being outdoors when it’s in the 70s, you’ll only like about 2 months a year.

Yes! Recently moved from MN. We, along with many of our neighbors actually park outside and use the garage for storage if that's any indication. Other than for rain, there is seldom a day you can't go outside and enjoy a walk. We have a screened in porch with a fan, so even on hot summer days you can keep decently cool because of the shade and wind. As a family, we make it a mission to force ourselves outside as many days as we can
