My family and I are moving to Atlanta this summer and after a string of bad luck in our housing search, my husband just found a house on Lamont Drive that he really likes (I unfortunately, couldn't accompany him on this (our 3rd!) house hunting trip). We have an 18 month old daughter and a family friendly neighborhood is a huge priority to us. Is anyone familiar with this street?

If it's the Lamont Drive that I am thinking about - it's located in the City of Decatur. The neighborhood is called Clairemont Estates. (There is also a street spelled the identically and another one spelled without the 'e' - go figure.)

There always seems to be lots of children in the neighborhood and the City of Decatur is sought after because of it's school system.

Read up on the City of Decatur at City of Decatur, GA and here is a website for the Decatur School System: City Schools of Decatur

Don't let people confuse you between the City of Decatur and the "rest" of Decatur. Despite them both being in DeKalb County - they are very different entities.

Having not seen the house - I think that your husband chose a good neighborhood without you

Good luck and welcome

That is one of the best streets in 'the city'...

Lamont is awesome. That whole little neighborhood (Lamont and Vidal) has a ton of kids and some great families. We know a bunch of folks over there. The elementary school is great too.

Lamont-Vidal is often derided as the "Buckhead" of the Clairemont-Great Lakes Neighborhood in the City of Decatur...because the houses are somewhat larger/more expensive and for the...um...snootiness.

George, I don't think that spelling change is arbitrary...I think Decaturites engineered that sp. change so that travelers would know when they were in the 'real Decatur' and when they weren't.

At this point, the OP must think she's moving to Beverly Hills

That makes perfectly good sense!!! All these years living in Atlanta and I never even thought of that as a possibility

Thanks for clearing it up!
