My sister has decided to relocate to gwinnette county, she will be moving this Dec. with my nephew. She will be coming down soon to apply at Gwinnett Hospital. She is a single African American female. What are the safer areas with great school districts for her to live in? My nephew is 6. Can anyone recommend secured apts., that are also within a short distance from houses for lease or rent? Apt. price range 2 bed 850.00-1000.00, and houses at least 4 bed 2.5 bath 1600.00. My family and our mother will be coming summer of 09.

North Gwinnett and West Gwinnett/near Fulton and Forsyth counties are preferable to the central and some parts of east Gwinnett, IIRC.

Pleasant Hill Rd is a less safe area and the schools around this vicinity should be scrutinized--Jimmy Carter Blvd, Norcross and Lilburn, Indian Trail Rd, Beaver Ruin Rd --Buford Hwy---there are better areas. Very diverse and things 'Go On' that are best avoided.

Lawrenceville has some problems--stable neighborhoods in places but some say things could be better. Places like SugarLoaf Pkwy--Duluth, Buford, Suwanee, Ga/partially in Gwinnett and partially in Forsyth, I believe --those are areas that are doing pretty well. She would be 'further' out--away from downtown Atlanta but maybe she knows this and prefers it.

Around the Mall of Georgia--Buford --I think that is where I would look. Good growth--sure to be opportunities in healthcare. If she hasn't heard of/considered Emory Healthcare--she should apply with them. Many good providers of Healthcare--but Emory has a reputation that cannot be 'Touched'. How the employees fare--my experience is limited to my next door neighbor's opinion--she liked the job but wanted/needed a change in her life and went into medical sales. Your friend might want to consider that--plenty of opportunities for those with medical experience in metro Atlanta.

I agree...Suwannee & Buford are nice. Lawrenceville, but not in the city part is nice. Look for schools like North Gwinnett, Mill Creek High, Collins Hill, Brookwood & Peachtree & Dacula. I live in the Hamilton Mills area which is only about 5-10 minutes from the Mall Ga area. There are great townhouses right across from the mall although traffic can be bad. There is a great neighborhood called Fairmont On the Park in Dacula that is very reasonable, safe, and in the Dacula district. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know

Fairmont is a home community, but you may be able to find a small home for rent in there. Also a gated apartment community is next to the townhomes right across from the mall. They are also in a good school district

I relocated to duluth from NC about 3 yrs ago and I love it. I actually live off of peachtree industrial, there are several apartments in this area. I actually lived in Wesley Plantation for about 2 yrs, no major issues. Colonial Grand also has several apartments in this area as well. Go to apartmentratings.com and she can actually get feedback on different apartments from actual residents. I dont have any kids so I don't have to much feedback on the schools, my little sister went to duluth middle for 2 years and its a nice school. Not sure about the elementary though. HTH
