Guys, I bought a home in an "Arvida Community" but I don't believe Arvida is the homebuilder. What is an Arvida community? Thanks.

Arvida is an enormous developer out of FL, primarily involved in residential development. "Arvida" is an abbreviation of its' founder's name, Arthur Vining Davis.

And there are many Arvida communities throughout the Metro Area...most built in the late 70's, 80's, and early 90's. Some Arvida communities off the top of my head:

Water's Edge (Stone Mountain)
Chimney Springs (East Cobb)
Chimney Lakes (East Cobb)

...there are many more.

Ok, thanks... so it doesn't mean anything... just a developer who sold lots to other developers it looks like?

I lived in an Arvida community in FL, and while my house was not built by them, the town was planned out by them. Streets, schools, landscaping, parks, retail, etc was all part of a master plan. Arvida did build some of the homes, but from what I heard and saw, their quality wasn't great.

Arvida developed the communities and I'm sure many of the houses. Their communities have a good reputation here in Atlanta.

Now, with Water's Edge, I remember in the early 90's, Arvida started the community, but other developers finished it. When you go in Water's Edge you can see the well-made, well-planned older part, then some cheap additions, and finally the latest additions have been very nice.
