I would like to thank everyone who helped this N'Yorker navigate the HJ Airport this past summer as well as provide me with details about the N Springs/185 bus transfer I took to Alpharetta Hwy a few weeks ago. It was a very smooth commute and look forward to it again

Just curious though, while I really liked the 185 bus itself, thought the bus itself and transit TV as well as those cool GPS maps were really cool, it seemed the bus driver was cranky and cold to my inquiry about where the stop was on Alpharetta Hwy (turned out it's at Commerce St) and when I thanked her for her help upon exiting she did not say anything

Could this be annoyance with my NY look and carry on luggage (other passengers looked like very local types, no travellers) or could this just be a cold irritable driver? By contrast I have found the attendants at the train/ bus turnstiles to be very helpful

I would guess that you encountered a driver having a bad day...and it had nothing to do with your luggage. People in public service positions often have bad attitudes from dealing with the public or resulting from issues in their personal lives. It doesn't represent a sytemwide problem or an overall problem with travelers carrying luggage.

Yes, while not making excuses for the drivers, they deal with really idiotic and rude people throughout their day. Add that on top of them already possibly having a bad day and you get some anger issues. I think what happened to you has happened to just about anybody that regularly rides public transit.

What he said.

Some people are just rude.

Maybe she was annoyed with your luggage is it can get it the way during rush hour, but even so it is her job to courteous and helpful.

well, it's OK, i still found the bus charming, especially the transit TV. it was raining out and the TV inside the bus provided great atmosphere. tho the bus was half the size of a ny bus, it was more pleasant to ride it

You know though, MARTA bus drivers have never been known for smiley faces and "how-de-doos", either.

Back in the day when I rode the trains and buses daily, I ran into rude bus drivers more often than not, though there were a few exceptions here and there. At one time an article in the paper highlighted that the largest complaint MARTA received was about rude employees, and not mistimed buses or anything else.

If someone is blatantly rude when you ask a route question, just give them a two second stare and say politely and calmly, "Excuse me, I'm asking you a legitimate question about a route - if for some reason you feel you don't need to help me, please tell me the name of your supervisor so I can call them and ask them for a reference to another employee who'd be happier to assist me". They'll help you then.

what's odd is that NY where I'm from used to be an unfriendly place in the transit system but things have changed a lot for the better so that it's strange to find a transit worker in a bad mood in a city that's smaller than NY. But of course NY has it's share of cranky workers too

2 weeks ago en route back home i took the MARTA train from N Springs to the HJ Airport, then after my flight landed in NY i took the bus/subway route home. When i stepped in the subway in NY I missed the clean quiet MARTA train ride i had only a few hours earlier
