Hello all. I was directed to Alpharetta as a great place to live and purchase a home. I'm excited about this possibility. However, when I look up real estate some homes are as low as 80K and, quite frankly, seem too good to be true. We actually prefer an older neighborhood (even established in the 50s-80s). We like older homes with "established" neighborhoods. Thus we don't need new developments. But we also want safety. We can afford up to about 180k - max! And we don't mind fixer-uppers. My main question is: are there any areas in Alpharetta that we should avoid due to crime? Zip codes and cross streets are most welcome. Thank you in advance.

I haven't heard of any problems in single family home areas. Some of the apartment complexes have had robberies. Since you aren't looking to rent an apartment, you shouldn't have any worries.

Default Your home search

Have you thought about other areas such as Marietta, Kennesaw, or Roswell. There are several homes in your price range, the nice ones sell very quickly under $200k. So you'll need to be right on it when it is time to purchase.

Under 400k, i wouldnt even want to look at it if its in alpharetta (the actual city). Ive looked at such bargains for laughs in the past and if you can get past the halfway demolished structure, the areas are usually just fine.

Thanks for your post. Any info is appreciated. For clarification: do you mean that the areas in Alpharetta are all good, but if one purchases a home under 400k the house itself will be a "dump'? And getting back to "location, location, location" all areas in Alph are safe? Thank you very much for your time.

There are a few "shacks" here and there, but low $80s!?! I've seen some townhomes in the Alpharetta/John's Creek area but even they are $200-300s. I would think that if you're finding anything under the $200s, it's a foreclosure, townhome, or requires massive amounts of repair.

I live next door in Johns Creek. I have not heard of any areas in Alpharetta being unsafe or high crime. As someone else mentioned, apartment complexes can be trouble spots, and most of the crimes I hear about in Alpharetta are in or around the mall.

You cant find a "bad" part in Alpharetta at all... It's a beautiful area to live in. Why so cheap? Its a 10+ minute ride outside the city. Most of the trendy PROfessionals live in the Buckhead area.
