I intend to move to Atlanta in a month From MA. I want a 1 BDR apt in Lawrenceville. I looked online and all of them look nice & very affordable any advice on any apt complex. How is the cost of living in ATL? houses looks dirt cheap compare to MA, what is the catch!!!!.

Are you working in Larryville?

Larryville is very, very affordable. It's ~30 miles outside Atlanta and the commute to the city is murder. But, if you found nice affordable apartments I am not surprised.

Yes, it's bad. When I lived out there I would come into town via I-85 and it took me 1.5 hours each way. When I carpooled and we could use the HOV lane it took an hour each way.

THAT is primarily why I moved to the city.

What's your budget for an apartment?

I live North of the Mall of Ga in Buford and I work just inside the perimeter. It takes me 1 hour to make it just to the 285. My husband works downtown and he now takes Gwinnett Transit. The drive is terrible. We have lived up here for 10 years and love the area. I'm getting ready to quit my job because I can't take the traffic and I don't want to move.

Yeah, I totally understand. I lived off Old Peachtree Rd, just south of Mall of GA. I was closer to Buford than Larryville but my address was Larryville.

I-85 is a parking lot for the 85/316 merge to 285. It opens up a bit once you get past 285 but then gets nasty again around Cheshire Bridge Rd.

Avoid living out there, Katie, if you can afford it.

None of the rail lines go outside the 285 perimeter except for a few miles, not as far as Lawrenceville.

It's possible to take the Gwinnett Express. It's a commuter bus. It won't get you there any faster but at least you wouldn't have to drive and could sit and read or take a nap.

9am destination in the city is probably the worse time to be in traffic. If you leave your place in the burbs at 6am it will take maybe an hour to get downtown.
