We are not from here and I have no idea how traffic court, Georgia style works. My daughter was speeding... 64 in a 45. She has a court date coming up soon... what might we expect? She is 17, has had her license for a year. Do they have any kind of court supervision here so it won't go on her record? Any information would be helpful! Thanks...

There should be a number on the ticket to call that can answer questions specific to Duluth or gwinnett county.

What you daughter more than likely has coming up is not a court date for traffic court but rather something called a pre-trial hearing where the judge will not hear your case but give you the option to contest the charges in court or to just pay the ticket. In my experience they tend to persuade you to do the latter by suggesting if you take it to court and are found guilty, you could pay a higher penalty that you started out with.

Sometimes they are real nice at the hearing and give you the option to go to school to waive the points. If so, they will sign her up on the spot.

There have been a number of "ticket" topics that have come up, and the general thought that we (moderators) have come up with is that people cannot give you advice on what to do because technically, that might be considered "legal advice", and you should only seek that from a professional as for liability reasons, no one here can or should be dispensing it. Please consult an attorney for advice as juvenile cases are indeed handled different here. Thank you.
