Better chance of teaching job with out of state job fairs? (Atlanta: high school, university)

My husband has already relocated to Atlanta. I will be coming at the end of the school year. I am certified in junior high and high school science. I'm going to apply to Douglas, Fayette, Coweta, and Henry Counties. I heard about a teacher job fair at Auburn University (not far from me), and a couple of the Atlanta area counties will be represented. Coweta will be there. Is it worth my time to attend or should I wait until the spring job fairs?

If you have certification in science you should have no problem getting a position. Douglas county, it appears, needs you now . For the long haul, call desired school systems in the metro and tell them that you have science certification. They may know of someone leaving or they may be adding a class to reduce current class sizes. You need to put in an application as well. You'll be hired, I am sure. To answer your question, yes the Auburn job fair is worth your time. They will be glad to know that you are available. Also, there will be less people(competition) at the Auburn fair. Best Wishes!

A friend (certified in English/Reading) and I attended the job fair today. While there were only 5 counties from the Atlanta area it was all pretty positive. I was told by DeKalb and Bibb that if I wanted a job now I would be able to get one. My friend received the name of 2 principals to call. It was pretty good. I was also told that when the individual systems have their job fairs, principals are usually there to interview on the spot. It was pretty easy to talk with the systems from Georgia since most of the teachers were looking for positions in Alabama.

That's true about the principals attending the job fairs for the local systems, or at least it was in past years. I got my job offer and even signed my contract on the spot at a Fulton County job fair.

While not as fast as you, most assuredly, your friend will get a job . Determined English /reading teachers get hired because few people want to grade all of the written work that English teachers must read and grade. One must have good eyes and a great deal of patience to want to teach English. Those jobs pop up at odd times,too.
