I read on this board that Roswell and Alpharetta are supposed to be two of the places that retirees are supposedly flocking into, but the demographics don't seem to show it.
Does anyone know where all these retirees that are flocking into the Atlanta area moving to? Forsythe, Mabelton or where?
Anyone have any suggestion as to a great area for a single, retired Caucasian woman to move to that is safe?
I'm looking at the Tampa region (outside the city, tho) and Atlanta region, so it is down to between those two areas.

K'ledgeBldr, that was a mean thing to write. She asked a worthwhile question.

We need more information.

What sort of house, location, amenities, etc., would you be looking for?

Price range?

Gated community? HOA? Tennis? Golf? Don't care?

While the OP question was about Atlanta I don't think the poster was being mean by writing retirees are going to Costa Rica. Many are going there and I for one hope to retire there some day too, its a wonderful place.

I wasn't aware that retirees are flocking to Atlanta...is this a newer trend? I do know that the North Georgia mountains are very popular with retirees, and portions of the mountains are within an hour or so from the city.

Alpharetta and Roswell both have a lot of 55+ developments, some of which have only gone up in the past couple of years. I'm not sure if it's a case of "if you build it they will come" or if there is a demand.
I still know of more retirees heading towards the Asheville area than Georgia.

I tried to help my parents look into one of those 55+ develpments a few years ago. Just use caution. While they are gated and relatively safe, they seem to charge a LOT for monthly dues and upgrades. Relatively speaking....much concreate than grass/garden (the expensive dues should cover the ground upkeep), etc.

My neighbors who are single retired Caucasian females all bought condos in FL and are moving there...

Nope, Atlanta is the place that is supposed to boom--especially to year 2030. I've read it more than once, but, since I can't seem to find any demographics that support this, am a little confused over where they would be then?
Interesting comment, Osmanthus, since a Florida realtor claims all the retirees are now flocking to Georgia (really...the realtor pm'd me this). And I agree with you that these 55+ places are really not cheap at all, but they do have built-in activities for people who need that sort of thing. I think folks that want a ready-made community like these 55+ places best, and nothing wrong with it IF you are willing to pay for it 'cause it's definitely not free. To each his own.
I just can't find where all these retirees are moving to since it has been in the paper and other articles that Atlanta is going to be one of THE retiree capitals soon, and the only paper I take is the Wall Street Journal which does have pretty decent information often ahead of others.
