Lenox and Phipps within the city limits, Perimeter and Northpoint ouside of the city - store selection is so so and I think you'd be better off making seasonal trips to NYC to satisfy your shopping needs. You may even save money if you come back with big ticket items on sale.

In my experience, Lenox and Phipps are the best malls in the Atlanta area. You will find your high-level botiques and department stores there.

Lenox and Philips (buckhead) are best malls in Georgia by far. Over there you can buy from high end stores like Sak and Neinum Marcus.

Perimeter (Dunwoody) and Northpoint malls (Alpharatta/Johns CreeK) are also very popular in Atlanta on the northern side. You got your typical Banana republic, Macy's, very family oriented malls.

There is outlet mall called North Georgia Premium in Dawsonville, GA, a hour north of Alpharatta.

In Gwinnett, there is Discover Mills mall (Duluth/Lawrenceville border), Mall of Georgia (buford) and Gwinnett place mall (Duluth).

Then there is walkable mall called the forum at Peachtree Parkway, where trader's joe is located.

There's a mall in Douglasvillle called Arbor Place. Macy's, Dillards stores like that. We didn't have Dillards back home so I'm not that famiiar with it but it seemed sort of expensive the little part I was in with my wife one day.

Perimeter has actually become more upscale in the past few years with the addition of Nordstroms and Bloomingdales alot of smaller more upscale retailers have moved in.

You pay higher prices at the malls--expensive to lease space there.

It is nice to know good malls are nearby.

Lenox Square/Phipps Plaza - Sister malls right across the street from each other in Buckhead. Very upscale, tons of stores, very popular and busy area. Lenox is larger and more popular, but Phipps is more upscale and has the movie theater. The surrounded area in Buckhead has a lot of retail, shopping, and nightlife. The best shopping center in Atlanta. Places closest to this mall are Buckhead, Brookhaven, North Druid Hills/Briarcliff, Chamblee, and Midtown.

Perimeter Mall - Extremely busy, pretty upscale mall in the Perimeter Center business district in Sandy Springs/Dunwoody. This place is always packed with people, especially on weekdays during lunch time when all the yuppies who work in Perimeter flood in, and on weekends when it's packed with teens from the nearby suburbs. The mall is surrounded by lots of nice restaurants and retail. Probably second best mall after Lenox/Phipps. Places closest to this mall are Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, East Cobb, Chamblee, Doraville, Brookhaven, and Buckhead.

Cumberland Mall - A nice, just-renovated mall in the Cumberland business district in Smyrna/Vinings. Across the street is the Galleria Specialty Mall and being surrounded by tall office towers there are lots of professionals around. Lots of retail and restaurants in the surrounding Cumberland area. Places closest to this mall are Vinings, Smyrna, Buckhead, Marietta, Sandy Springs, East Cobb, and Mableton.

Town Center Mall - An average suburban mall in the Town Center area of Kennessaw. It's located on Barrett Parkway which is jam-packed with strip malls and perhaps every single retail, restaurant, and fast food chain there is. The serves the farther-out NW suburbs and is north of Cumberland Mall, which is closer to Atlanta. Fairly family-oriented mall. Places closest to this mall are Kennesaw, Marietta, East Cobb, Woodstock, and Acworth.

North Point Mall - A nice, very spacious family oriented mall in the center of north Fulton County in Alpharetta. This is a very large and pretty nicemall, serving mostly upscale suburban families. It's on North Point Parkway which has lots of strip malls with your typical retail chains and restaurant chains, though the area is nicer than the similar Town Center area. It serves farther out northern suburbs and is north of Perimeter Mall which is closer to Atlanta. Places closest to this mall are Alpharetta, Roswell, Johns Creek, Milton, and East Cobb.

Gwinnett Place Mall - A large mall in Duluth, your above-average suburban mall. Pretty family oriented. It's in the Gwinnett Place area which has a lot of retail and also lots of international stores and restaurants. Just down I-85 at Jimmy Carter Boulevard is Global Mall, a multistory Indian mall. Yes, Indian, not in New Delhi but in Atlanta. Not an American mall with a gimmicky theme either, it's actually an Indian mall filled with Indian/Bengali/Pakistani stores and restaurants. Back to Gwinnett Place Mall, the places closest to it are Duluth, Norcross, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Suwanee, and Johns Creek.

Discover Mills Mall - A mall in Lawrenceville a few miles down the road from Gwinnett Place Mall. It's a kind of strange place, kind of a mix between an outlet mall and a normal mall. There are lots of outlet stores but also a theater and regular stores. The places closest to it are Lawrenceville, Duluth, Suwanee, Norcross, Lilburn, and Johns Creek.

Mall of Georgia - A huge mall in Buford. It's a nice mall and serves the farther-out NE suburbs in Gwinnett County. It's surrounded by retail, though the area overall is not as busy as malls closer to Atlanta. There are tons of stores in this mall as well as the only IMAX theater in Atlanta that shows commercial movies (there's one in a museum in Druid Hills). Very family oriented mall. The places closest to this mall are Buford, Sugar Hill, Suwanee, and Lawrenceville.

Arbor Place Mall - An above-average suburban mall in Douglasville. It's the only mall in the western suburbs (all of the previously described malls are in the northern suburbs except Lenox/Phipps which are in northern Atlanta). There's a lot of stuff in this mall and it's pretty much the retail focal point of the western suburbs. Lots of families here. The places closest to this mall are Douglasville, Villa Rica, Winston, Lithia Springs, and Austell... although closest in this case may mean a rather long distance as this region is mall-starved.

Northlake Mall - An average mall in Tucker. Not much to say here... your average JCPenny/Sears/Macy's type of mall. You'll find your typical big-box retail chains nearby. Rather close to another mall, North Dekalb Mall. The places closest to this mall are Tucker, LaVista, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, Briarcliff/North Druid Hills, and Clarkston.

North Dekalb Mall - An old, not so great mall in Decatur. Close to Northlake Mall but much older and pretty uninteresting. Places close to this mall include Decatur, Clarkston, Avondale Estates, Scottsdale, and North Druid Hills/Briarcliff.

Shannon Mall - A mall in Union City... not that great of a mall. Serves the southwestern suburbs and is the only proper mall I can think of in the area, though there's lots of open-air type shopping centers in parts of the area. Places closest are Union City, Fairburn, Palmetto, and Tyrone.

South Dekalb Mall - A mall in unincorporated Dekalb County, east of Atlanta. I think Rich's is the only anchor left, with many previous large stores moving out, as well as the theater. I believe they're building a new theater though. This mall is geared towards African-Americans and is a focal point of the surrounding community, hosting community services and events. Nearby places include Decatur and a ton of unincorporated communities in Dekalb which don't have any single name as far as I can think of.

Stonecrest Mall - A pretty average mall in Lithonia. One of the busier malls in the area, serving a lot of the eastern suburbs. The closest places are Lithonia, Conyers, and a lot of unincorporated communities.

Southlake Mall - A mall in Morrow. Your average JCPenny/Sears/Macy's mall. Not that great. Serves the southern suburbs. Closest places are Morrow, Riverdale, Forest Park, Jonesboro, and Stockbridge.

Those are all the normal, enclosed malls I think think of in Atlanta. There are many other large shopping centers though... There's a group of open-air pretty upscale shopping centers called the Avenue... there's one in Peachtree City, one in East Cobb, maybe a few more. There's Atlantic Station in Midtown which is open air and has a lot of nice stores. There's a very large strip mall in Fayetteville with some mall-like stores that functions as the local mall for Fayetteville and nearbye areas like Peachtree City. There's also the Underground in downtown.
