Very early but the owner of the company liked me on the first interview and he has a rep for acting at light speed so need my ducks in a row. The job would be in Roswell. We would likely rent for the first year and hope to rent a house. A 1000 SF apartment is tight for a family of 4 and they are often over priced for what they are.

Me, wife, son 1st grade next year, dau pre-k next year.

Need:

1) Usable public schools. They dont have to be the uber snob schools but a 2 rating at greatschools would be a massive concern.
2) Public pre-k would be a bonus
3) Neighbors not noted for a high incidence of felonies.
4) Relatively affordable

Somethings that dont bother me:
1) Tract houses... whatever. I need a safe place not a residential statement.
2) Big box stores and chain restaraunts as long as it is not immediately in the back yard.

Looking at other threads Alpharetta, East Roswell, Roswell are mentioned.

Agree/ disagree?
Others???

You didn't give a budget, but everything you want can be found in Roswell or Alpharetta. Not sure about getting into public pre-k at this point, there may be waiting lists. If you can work and live in Roswell, you will have a higher quality of life than most commuters.

Ooops sorry.
$1500/ mo would be a max and $1300- $1400 would be a bonus.

Any opinions on the following cities. (This a random list based on being close on google maps only)
Norcross
Dunwoody
Johns Creek
Woodstock
Marietta
Smyrna
Powder Springs
Kennesaw
Acworth
Suwanee

Woodstock wouldn't be a terrible commute, depending on where in Woodstock you started from. Forget about the others. They may not be far "as the crow flies", but there isn't a lot of highway driving in most of those commutes. You would still have to navigate secondary roads into Roswell.

I'm not sure about the budget. I do know there are plenty of houses with "For Rent" signs up, in both Roswell and Alpharetta. Your best bet would be to concentrate on those towns first.

I think you should stick with Roswell, East Roswell, Alpharetta, South Alpharetta, and West Johns Creek...especially East Roswell--a great area.

Can give you more feedback once you know the specifics of where your job will be located in Roswell.

Aries' advice is great for job locations in the eastern half of Roswell. If your job location turns out to be nearer to the western edge of Roswell, then you should probably add Woodstock and north-east Cobb county to your search, and de-prioritize some of the more easterly suggestions above. As usual in metro Atlanta, the job location is key because commuter traffic is heavy.

A rough indication of where in Roswell your office would be would help greatly. "Roswell" covers a large area, and working on one side and living on the other can create a painful commute. If it turns out that you're on the West side of town, you can look at not only Woodstock, but Holly Springs and even parts of Canton. We're in Holly Springs and love it- we left NJ in 2007 and haven't looked back since.

east cobb around highway 92 would work. also, sections of 140 would also work but i'll take 92 for the commute any day.

so yep, woodstock (not the city per say as thats west and north) would be my vote. other than that, you are looking at the east side of town @ gwinnett

Found the address. Near 92 which is a diagonal road going NW and crabapple going N/S.

Looks to be northern central Roswell or at least it is north of the "Roswell" letters on google maps.
