I am considering relocating to the area, probably Marietta or Alpharetta.
My fiancée and I are moving from CA.
Approximately how much money would be needed for the expenses? We are driving from California, so we have calculated gas, food and lodging for the trip there. However, once we reach the state how much would we need upfront? What is the average amount that people have saved when making a huge move like this. We may or may not have jobs set up when we move, so we want to book corporate housing or an extended stay until we become fully settled. If there is anyone who has made a similar move or is considering it, any info would be helpful! Thank you so much!

It's tough to say how much you'll need- it depends on what you're looking to cover. Moving costs for your furniture, belongings, etc., can easily be $8-10,000 (two PODS from NJ to GA are costing us right around $4,000, and your mileage charges will be much higher). Corporate housing (fully furnished and outfitted) tends to run from $1,800/month on up, depending on where you're looking to be. Your living expenses (food, gas, entertainment, etc) will likely be the same as they are right now, so you'll have to budget for those costs as well until you find jobs. Depending on your career, that could take a day or if could take months.

We've budgeted around $10k for our move and temp housing for a month (our house won't be done by the time the kids need to be there for school), but I've already got a job lined up- so that doesn't include actual living expenses. YMMV.

We are relocating at the end of this month. We paid $750 for 20 up to 60 boxes. ( same price for 20 as it is for 60)
We sold all the bigs things, we are thinking to rebuy in Craigslist again all the beds and etcs, comes out cheaper this way, we are just moving the personal belongings.
Hope this helps, seems Atlanta is a lot cheaper than CA so you'll do ok.

Default U-Haul BREAK on moving

Apparently U-Haul is having a computer problem wherein they are discounting their rental truck fees by OVER HALF. Check it out.

When I went to U-Haul last night to reserve my truck (in person), she quoted me a price OVER twice as much as it said on the website. I explained that the website quoted a much lower price. The lady at the counter said she had heard that yesterday and the day before and people should take advantage of the deal.

What's driving you toward Fulton County? I ask because a lot of the transplants are looking more toward the suburbs- especially those with kids (though it sounds like your kids are almost done with school).

If you provide more info on exactly what you're looking for, and whether you have a job lined up (and where it is), that would help you get better answers.
