Food Lion closing three Augusta area stores | The Augusta Chronicle

That's just too bad. I actually like the store at the Village at Furys Ferry. It has good prices and selection, convenient location, easy access, and plenty of parking. I hope that another food retailer will move in. Something a bit more upscale perhaps? Trader Joe's?

I'm sure the space at the Village at Furys Ferry, and North Belair rd will attract something soon. The shopping center on Old Petersburg is much older, and will take longer.. I doubt Trader Joes will come to Martinez, and I still think Earthfare made a mistake locating there.. Nobody drives to Martinez to shop except for the people who live in the surrounding area..

I see Whole Foods and Trader Joes coming to West Augusta in the future.. Or Whole Foods coming to West Augusta, and Trader Joes opening in Evans..

I drive to EarthFare from g-town all the time and I'd drive even further to get to TJ's.

I'm not surprised about the one on Old Petersburg, still a shame though.

I go to the Food Lion Off Furry Ferry. There is some limitation's on selections and not the best 'sales'., but they were reasonible. I think People don't go to them not because of lack of 'savings' vere's where can i get everything I want in one stop. So Publix and Walmart , even though pricer are very well generating more business for those reasons.

The Walmart and Earthfare do attract people from outside of Martinez, but not much else.. Even the majority of I-520 where Walmart is located belongs to West Augusta(Sams, Home Depot, Bealls, Ruby Tuesday, Rooms to Go, etc)...

There's no Augusta Exchange(West Augusta) or even the smaller Mullins Crossing(Evans) anywhere in Martinez... I wouldn't expect Martinez to have something the size of Augusta Exchange, but atleast something similar to Mullins Crossing.. Martinez has the least attractive part of Washington rd(Btw Pleasant home and Club Car) compared to Evans(Club Car-past Riverwood shopping center) and West Augusta(Pleasant Home-Augusta National)...
