Aldi is not a replacement of any other grocery store because you can't get everything you need there. Aldi is just a supplement. So aside from Food Lion being on the skids anyway, Aldi shouldn't really have any effect on them.

I be loving me some Aldi. I would say I get 75% or more of my growtrees there. Much cheaper than Walmarts

That's what I base my statement on. Food lion is struggling already they need all the customer they can get.

South Augusta will soon be home to a brand new ALDI.

The German no-frills grocery store chain will be opening their fourth location in the area on 3034 Peach Orchard Road on the site of the former Ryan's restaurant. The existing building will be demolished.

According to ALDI corporate, the store will feature a modern design, open ceilings, natural lighting and will be built using environmentally-friendly building materials; as well as feature energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.

Like other ALDI locations, the store will feature your favorite grocery items but the chain says they will also have a focus on fresh items including more produce, and an expanded bakery and dairy section.

The store is expected to open and be completed in late 2017.

This is very good news for South Augusta. I suspect Aldi will do very well in that location.
I do much of my grocery shopping at Aldi, what I can't get there I get at Kroger, Walmarts or Costco. but I say that 75% of my groceries come from Aldi and I save 40% on my bill. It really adds up. Now Aldi does not have the pharmacy and not much of the healthy and beauty items but I can get those things elsewhere when I need them. I like the scale of the Aldi stores because I can get in and out very easily. I much prefer this format over the large big box format and I believe we will see a shift to more of these types of food markets in the future.

The owners of the Juicy crab here in Augusta will be opening another restaurant on peach orchard rd. New China buffet will close after today and then the new seafood restaurant will be taking their place after renovations. It appears it may be under another name but will basically be the same and will have a bar and everything.
