The urban core of Augusta is growing and new construction is on the way.. While nearby cities like Savannah, Greenville, Charleston, and Chattanooga have better downtown's.. The urban core of Augusta might have the most potential considering the CBD and Medical District are two distinct growing urban areas close together.

The Lofts at Marbury(new construction) should break ground in the CBD over the next few months..

It will be nice to see some new construction residential in the CBD. This will bring much needed critical mass to the area and bring in new retailers and restaurants. Also I'm looking forward to GRU starting their gateway project.

Those Canalside apartments look/sound interesting. But you can see in the Google Street View that a sign shows a rendering of a medical office building. I'm not saying that's what's coming, but that until dirt is moving I'll think of it as a nice idea. Nicer apartments across the street from low income housing doesn't seem like the best selling point, either.

The Google Street view is from 2012... The current owner of the property is building a $11 million residential development, because of the demand for housing in the CBD/Medical District..
Apartments planned in Augusta's medical district | The Augusta Chronicle

I don't remember anything related to Medac being a 'nice idea' and they don't plan on turning dirt anytime soon.

The Peabody apartments are restricted for the elderly and not the typical low income housing....

Innovative, boutique apartments in unique hoods... I think that about tells it all

There's not a housing project built across the street from where Medac will be... And Medac is not a 'boutique' apartment complex where people will live 24/7; it's a business. Big difference. My point is that, given the location and the fact that not long before this was announced it said it was going to be medical office space, until construction is underway I won't hold my breath.
