I have to drive past bobby jones 520 and I-20 everyday to get to work. Im wondering what are they building on the two interstates? Its a pretty big project with all the cranes surrounding them. Whats the structures going up in the air when 520 intersects 20?

They're building flyover ramps to make it easier to get on and off I-20 and I-520.

You saw the bridges going up in the air at I-20/520 for the new spaghetti junction. The cost is over 200 million dollars for the project so yes its massive. Its not scheduled to be completed until 2010.

It's a mini spaghetti juntion with 2 flyover ramps.. something that has been proposed for that interchange and needed for over 25 years.. the clover leaf interchanges are out of date (designed for traffic patterns of the 1960s) and are dangerous. IT's glad to see Augusta is finally getting this project completed.

I wouldn't call a project that cost over 200 million dollars mini. I agree it's good that the project is moving along quicky. Also i seriously doubt augusta was proposed to get a spaghetti interchange in 1983.

all of the construction along I20 through Augusta will cost in the neighborhood of $200 million.. not just the junction of I520 and I20.. that includes all of the widening from the columbia county border to the river, the new interchange at Walton Way Ext and Washington Rd. And yes, an upgrade of this interchange has been proposed for many years.. I know as long back as the mid to late 80s.. and it is being finished just in time... Augusta time that is.. which is about 20 years behind everyone else.
Oh BTW, Alexandria, LA something like 3 or four spahghetti junctions similar to this one..it's not exactly a boomtown either for anyone that thinks a spaghetti junction equates to an economic explosion.

The Walton Way Ext project is not included in that. That's included in the Davis Rd project.
