Yeah I used recently loosely also. My brother worked down there in the early 90's and he told me about it when we were discussing Plant Vogtle

Southwest Georgia just might be getting a huge shot in the arm. Some say it might be equal to Kia coming to west Georgia.

A Port in Augusta? Who dreamed this up. Wht in the heck would you build a port in Augusta when the sensible solution would be to just build the interstate from Savannah to Greenville or Knoxville. There is also the Savannah River Parkway.

Because it's cheaper, by a whole lot. money is what matters

I know of some natural resources that are cheaper to haul to Savannah, from Augusta, than they are to buy in Savannah. The price difference? $1ton

It's when you buy 100,000 tons of it that little $1 adds up

Although it is possible, I don't think it's very likely that we'd see a port in Augusta because it's just not practical. The Port of Savannah would have to see and explosion in traffic for that to even be considered. I do however think that it's more likely that we would see that Interstate 3 proposal happen, plus that would spur development and greatly benefit Augusta more than a port would. Just my opinion.

Despite a rainy autumn, construction crews continue to cut deeper into Burke County's sandy soil to prepare for a project that will make Plant Vogtle the first U.S. nuclear site with four commercial reactors.

"At this point, we have 76 months until the first new reactor will start up," said Beth Thomas, a spokeswoman for Southern Nuclear, the plant's parent company. The ambitious schedule would put Vogtle ahead of similar nuclear projects in Illinois, Virginia and Mississippi and would make it the first U.S. site with four commercial nuclear power reactors. Currently, the Palo Verde plant in Arizona, with three units, has the most reactors on a single U.S. site.

The site preparation work under way involved about 320 workers in September. That work force has grown to more than 600. At the peak of construction in 2013-14, more than 3,000 workers are expected to be at the site.

New Inland Port Near Cordele, Ga., Awaits Federal Funds to Start Construction | News from other sources | Southeast Construction | McGraw-Hill Construction

Feb. 7--ATLANTA -- A new "inland port" near Cordele, meant to cover hundreds of acres and handle thousands of massive containers a year, is awaiting word on federal funding that could push construction to start later this year, local officials said.
Cargo would come in on trains from the port of Savannah, then be loaded onto trucks bound for the Gulf Coast and into Mississippi. The trucks wouldn't have to wait in line at Georgia's growing port, and the project eventually could bring thousands of jobs to the Cordele area.
The facility would be the first of its kind in Georgia, said Cordele-Crisp Industrial Development Council Executive Director Bruce Drennan.
