Hello everyone,

One thing I'm looking forward to when I move to TX is the seafood. I love lobster and crab, but it's very expensive here in WI. I've heard that I can get really good deals in TX. Is this still true?

Thank you in advance.

Gulf Coast seafood pretty much revolves around shrimp and crabs so I doubt lobster will be any cheaper here. That being said as far as I know of the Texas Gulf Coast is not under any fishing ban compared with Louisiana as far as I know of although you might have to pay more for it.

What type of crab are you referring to? Blue crab tends to be very reasonably priced here, but dungeness crab is very expensive compared to the west coast (not surprisingly). I have not noticed an increase in prices of lobster (none of it comes from the gulf AFAIK) or dungeness crab (from the west coast). I don't do blue crab so I'm not sure how the prices have fared.

I never thought about crabs being a regional specialty either. Gulf shrimp, red snapper, farm raised catfish, and crawfish seem to be at the heart of Texas seafood.

Well, I went to the Galaxy Cafe at the Triangle a few weeks ago and there was a big sign that they had to add TWO DOLLARS to the shrimp salad because of the oil spill. I think the salad had about 8 shrimp. Hmm.
