I'm currently living in San Marcos and commute to Austin to attend classes. I'm between the Riverside and Eastview campus for my degree plan.
I've been looking for (cheap-ish) apartments around that area, which are near where the buses run, but everytime I read reviews on some of the college apartments, all I find are horror stories.
(This is especially bad, as I'm a small female.)
I'm looking for a safe, fairly quiet area to live in, with maybe 550-ish in rent or so...
Any help?

I lived around Riverside for 3 yrs plus. There are tons of apartments you can rent. However, I will strongly recommend river crossing duplex. It is on Faro Drive and riverside. It was the best/quietest apartment I had ever had in the 3 yrs. The rent was around $850 per month for a 2-2.5 apartment/townhouse. You get free parking, a small yard, very nice patio view and inhouse laundry. Since the two bedrooms do not share a wall, it does not matter that much to share the house with a roommate. It had 5 star ratings on apartment.com. The view is very nice if you find a townhouse facing the central green belt/yard.

If you do not want to live with a roommate, check out woodmead on wickersham ln. The management was very nice and if you are lucky, you can rent a Study/efficiency for $450 per month.

Watch out wickersham green. Wickersham Green has rats/ants and very annoying management. The manager at Wickersham green was a jackass. She changes her words several times before you sign the renew contrat and she will charge you hundreds of fees when you move out.

I hope this helps.
