Any opinions? My younger sister and her husband are looking for places to relocate my mom that would be near me and my little sister. She and her husband are looking to buy her something, but on a pretty limited budget, and they found a cute place there, but we don't know much about the town. From the website it looks alright, although I do know it is kind of isolated.

Bartlett is isolated. Not much to it either. If your mother doesn't drive it may turn out to be very lonely for her. But it is along 95 which is a straight run north from Taylor.

I've driven through it once or twice while traveling 95. Granger is also along the way.

I think Taylor might be a better bet to look for something.
If you keep your eye out, some nice small older homes go up for sale
There's plenty of shopping, a movie theater and if you find something close to downtown she can walk to almost everything. HEB and Walmart though are a bit further out from downtown Taylor.
Plus it's not too far a drive from Hutto along 79.

Here's a website that lists a lot of Taylor properties in case you want to check it out:

Bartlett is 12 minutes up the road from us. Cute little town, but, as said, isolated if you only look south towards Austin. Salado is 5 minutes from us, Belton is 20 minutes, Temple 30 minutes, for shopping, etc., but I agree that Taylor or even Granger (15 minutes from Georgetown, about the same from Taylor) would be closer in to Georgetown/Hutto type amenities, depending on their budget.

Bartlett has antique stores, a few restaurants, the prison, some truly great BBQ (only available Saturday and Sundays), and some nice older houses, many of which are being restored. It's most definitely a small agriculturally-basedTexas country town, though, except for when filming for movies in going on. (The downtown with its red brick streets and period storefronts is perfect for it, as is Granger's.)

Granger and Taylor are both on the Austin area MLS (as is Bartlett, but it's also on the Temple/Belton MLS, so you never know which one a particular house will be on), so you can find houses there at Austin Home Search (http://www.austinhomesearch.com/Static/homeset.aspx - broken link).

Bartlett doesn't have as much going for it as it once did. I hope it does again, but I'm not sure she'd be happy there as it is.

My family has lived just a few miles away for the past 30 years. The Harvest Festival is kinda' fun, and the town itself was spruced up for the filming of "The Stars Fell on Henrietta" (Robert Duvall and Jane Seymour) in 1994 or 95. The wooden oil derrick that was constructed for the film, and a few other things, serve as a reminder of those exciting few weeks.

I wish all of the stores really contained what the store fronts said they did for the movie. It must have been such a great downtown in its day!
Other movies have been made there as well, as THL said.

Thanks guys Yeah, don't guess we want to put her quite that distance away. She drives and is pretty independant so that's a plus.
