My friend is visiting from overseas and wants to see something unique to Texas and wanted to now if he can watch a rodeo during the week. I did some search but only found the austin rodeo that happens in March. Is there any other family friendly place to watch rodeo in and around Austin during the weekdays?

Is there any other Texas unique thing to see and do here in Austin?

Not exactly a rodeo but weekly practice is something to watch.
Click on the "Calendar of events" in the left column.
Tomorrow (Thurs 8/12) is 4H roping practice.

Williamson County Sheriff's Posse - Georgtown Rodeo

Or a trail ride in the hill country
Austin Area Horseback Riding - Post Oak Farm

LBJ Ranch is a pretty unique to Texas thing to do. It's a national park, so it's open 7 days a week, with plenty of staff and tours. You can get a guided tour of the house, or a driving tour of the ranch. It's a working ranch, too, so you can talk to the ranch hands or watch them work if it's slow.

Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Plus there is this happening August:
Blanco County Fair & Rodeo - Johnson City, TX

and:
Gillespie County Fair Fredericksburg Texas (http://www.gillespiefair.com/fair.htm - broken link)

There is the Central Texas State fair first week in Sept: Central Texas State Fair

Of course, BBQ is also a very Texas thing (at least our style of BBQ). Salt Lick, Coopers, Kruez's/Smitty's in Lockhart, etc. can be nice little trips.

The drive out to Fredericksburg is nice too, a little bit of a taste how European culture transplanted into Texas long ago. The wineries along the way aren't particularly unique to Texas, but they are fun and you can taste some real Texas wine.. (and decide if it's worth drinking!)

Finally, depending on how much driving you/your visitor wants to do, there are plenty of dude ranches in Bandera. Very much the stereotypical Texas experience. Just google "dude ranch bandera" and a bunch will come up. Some surely have activities during the week.

You could take a day trip down to San Antonio and take a tour of the Alamo and checkout the other attractions like the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum and Texas Rangers Museum there's also the Institute Of Texan Cultures it might not be unique to Texas but might even check the Riverwalk out.

The Institute of Texan Cultures Home Page

Saloon Cafe - Since 1881

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service)

San Antonio Rose Live - Classic Country Music Show

Default Thank you so much!!!

Thank you so much to all of you for the helpful links. I will go through these and figure out something to do. Really appreciate all your responses.

The heat during the day might be something I have to consider especially with the kids in tow!!!

March isn't really the hottest month in Texas. July, August and sometimes September are the ones to be extra careful during.
