Tomorrow night, ABC will premier the new series "My Generation" at 7PM Central time. If the series is popular, do you think even more 20 somethings will head out this way?

I ask because back in the early nineties, when I was a 20 something, I met a whole bunch of people that had just moved to Seattle because they saw the movie "Singles" and decided it would be a cool place to live.

My understanding is that they are really showcasing the city of Austin in this series.

Doubt it since the show isn't very good, and based on my initial viewing, I imagine it won't be on the air very long.

I've seen the trailers, and there's some pretty snappy dialogue! Didn't see it before, but I'm really looking forward to watching for Austin hot spots! Apparently it's really being promo'd in CA, so......may see more new license plates??!

Does Austin need anymore media hype? Popularity as in the "next cool thing"? I would hope that a metro doesn't tie its' fortunes to being cool, because cool never lasts forever...every dog has its day..Seattle grew out of its cool stage, prob pinnacled with the grunge phenom, and is thriving quite well without all the media frenxy that Austin has largely superceded Seattle with...

I think, also, there is an abject lack of "cool" places now...what competition does Austin have? And all the others that could have competed are bleeding economically, like Vegas and much of Florida(Miami especially).....Austin is the only "cool" place that actually has jobs, so, indeed, you prob will see a lot more 20-somethings, but coming here desperate for work, not because of a TV show showcasing it.

I may watch it, but only because a friend of mines grandkids will be in it and she asked us all to tune in and see them.

The high school they graduated from is called "Greenbelt" High School. I find that hilarious for some reason. I wonder if it was filmed in South Austin a la Dazed and Confused.

Just what we need..another reason to be 'staring at one's navel" obsessed about "Austin"...which is really just letting our fantasias run wild...at all times, there has to be a state/city in the US that allows one to wax on with dreams..per states, California took that place for most of the 20th century....Las Vegas and some of the Florida cities as well....now that we have a nationwide downturn, and worst in those former "dream" capitals...Austin is the default leader/survivor in the same..

Yeah, my son was booked to work a scene and the night before his gig, they called to say they canceled the scene. He was bummed, but I guess that's showbiz. I think it's kind of fun for them to filming here where kids get an opportunity to work as background actors.
