I started a thread a while ago asking where you'd move to if you could pick up you and yours today, and it was relocated. Thankfully, someone realised the intent and pointed it out to the moderators, so I'm hoping they'll leave this here.

Ok, so we have lots of transplants here from everywhere. The first move is usually the hardest, but after that most people don't have near the same fear of relocation anymore. If you're a native Texan, where would you move to? If you're a transplant, I'm almost certain that you will be making a move, just a matter of when not if...So where to?

Just remember, we're not talking fantasy locations. Some place where you think/believe that you can plunk down and enjoy the same or better quality of life with little or no adjustment to your current budget.

Tarpon Springs/Dunedin, Florida for me.

Can I relocate to Austin 25 years ago? I have watched it change mightly over the years, but I still have a hard time imagining going somewhere else. Of course, part of that is the friends and family (in Boerne and Fredericksburg), so I don't know how I compare that to somewhere else. Also, my work experience is very Texas weighted - it can be applied elsewhere, but it is currently somewhat specialized to Tx laws.

That aside, I would not mind living in one of those mythical locations that has four seasons and tall trees. I have been to Minnesota many times and love the landscape and wildlife, but I am not sure I would love the winters for long. Ditto for Vermont.

As an aside, I have traveled quite a bit, and have a theory. There are many beautiful and wonderful places in the world, but I have always felt most comfortable when I am near my childhood area (piney woods near Houston) or an area very similar (southern alabama, florida pahhandle). I think that children have an 'imprint' of what is home...smell, weather, appearance, etc. At least, if you grow up in one local.

Of course, this could just be me :-)

Sure you can turn back the clock, but you'll be right back where you started in 25 years time, and then what will you do?

I hear you about the familiarity of learned sounds and smells. I'm the same way hence my choices. Something about being near salt water makes me tick. I can get a lot done and off my mind there than anywhere else.

Well our first pick was Austin so that's where we're coming...but if our family wasn't so concentrated on the western part of the U.S. we'd probably pick somewhere in North Carolina - Greensboro or Raleigh or Charlotte.

Okay, now that you have put it that way and I cannot choose a fantasy...I would still relocate to Texas. Just what I plan to do, just not sure EXACTLY where I will land.

Okay, I would relocate to San Antonio - which is exactly what I'm doing! Granted I have not been everywhere, so there are places I would probably like to relocate to but I don't know I want to relocate there because I have not been there. Does that make any sense??? Before selecting SA we checked out Austin and some other places in other states and just decided that SA had everything we needed. I love the place, but I know when I get there and start exploring other places, I will like other places too.
