Hello,

We are very seriously considering a relocation from Melrose, MA to the Austin area this summer. My 1st grade son is on the mild end of the Autism spectrum, completely integrated into the regular public system. We are extremely happy with his current school situation (1 full time teacher, 1 full time co-teacher, and 1 full time paraprofessional in his classroom at all times, plus OT, PT, and speech).

Nobody I talk to in Austin can believe the amount of assistance he's receiving through our public system, so I don't have any expectations that it will be matched if we move. But I do want to investigate specific schools - preferably within the LISD that would be best for him (or outside of LISD if there's a clear cut best choice, Public or private).

Does anybody know which specific schools within the LISD I should investigate? We're leaning toward Cedar Park/Leander most likely, but are open.

Thank you in advance.

Erik

My son has Aspergers and we have had great great luck with Leander ISD and we go to Pleasant Hill elem. The principle there is a very no nonsense lady and we are in SCSS and love the teacher. Wish we could pack her up and move her over to the middle school with us! DM if you have other questions. Heard good things about Parkside and River Ridge elem also.

You're right - the level of services here won't be the same.

Our kid with Asperger's goes to Winkley (Crystal Falls area). We've had a very similar experience to Neddy - not sure what we'd do without our SCSS teacher .

LISD (as do the other districts) have an assesment program followed up with yearly (or more frequent) reviews of your child's educational plan and goals. We've been very happy so far with LISD and our school in particular. PM me if you need more details.

Thank you for your help neddy and rrjr. I'd love to hear if anybody else has had a good SCSS experience in any specific Cedar Park schools.
