Okay so I currently live in McAllen, Texas located in the Rio Grande Valley and my parents either wanna relocate to Austin or DFW. I lived in San Antonio since I was in Kindergarden and I moved to the valley when I was 12. I never spent time in Austin, because I enjoyed San Antonio. I enjoy the Big City enviornment, even tho im to myself alot.

What I don't like about Austin is that the main highways (IH-35) is always jam packed when we go thru town. What are some benefits in Austin?

Is DFW better?

How old are you?

IH35 in Austin is a horrible road to drive on. I avoid it at all costs and probably drive the Austin portion just a few times a year.

But that doesn't define Austin.

Austin is a medium sized Texas city, very different from where you are. It is also very different from San Antonio. It is younger, better educated, more white, and less obese than San Antonio.

Austin has a vibrant nightlife, especially with music, than other cities. It does not have the big city life of Houston and Dallas. No pro sports, not many museums, etc. Austin has a stronger outdoor culture and more interesting geography than most cities in Texas.

You probably want Dallas or Houston if you want the big city atmosphere, good customer service, and good prices. If you live in Houston you can take drives into Austin for First Night and Viva La Vida festivals.

In general Fort Worth is a little bit too country bumpkin for me. So is Austin.

It depends on what you're looking for in your town. If you're young, white, physically active, and like to go out and drink and hear live music, Austin will probably be a better fit for you. If you want to live in a large, bustling city with a few more amenities and a more sophisticated culture, you will enjoy DFW better.

It all depends on what you're into and possibly your age. I personally enjoy Dallas more. The streets are better laid out in my opinion and I'm a Ranger's fan Dallas does have a night life but Austin seems more alive on a weekend In my opinion. So if you're a single person or active couple, that maybe better suited for you.

Its apples and oranges. Austin if you prefer to spend more time outdoors and want to be in a smaller city. Dallas is you want the big city life with the ammenities that come with it.

That's what the toll road on the East side of Austin is for to solve all the traffic on I-35 in Austin
(just in case that is not clear = sarcasm)

If you don't like jam-packed traffic, I would not recommend Austin. It's not just I-35 either. All the major routes through or around town are parking lots during commuting hours each day. I-35 is made even worse because of all the truck traffic, plus anytime there's a big event downtown or a UT game, it's a nightmare. Austin has its good points, like DFW or Houston, but if you can't stand being parked in traffic on a daily basis, it's the wrong city for you.
