The zoo is great for smaller kids as you can be in and out in under 2 hours! It's not huge where you have to be there all day.

The Exotic Zoo in JOhnson City is interesting. They put you on a bus/wagon thing and take you through the camels, buffaloes, zebras, goats, etc... it's a 45 minute tour.

Is it worth the visit? From the pictures I've seen it looks kind of run down and not somewhere I would enjoy looking at animals. Just curious on anyones first hand perspective on the zoo.
It's a rescue place, not a typical zoo. My favorite in Texas is the Fort Worth Zoo, it is top-notch and feels like a tropical getaway. San Antonio zoo is enjoyable as well, and I hear good things about Waco's.

I enjoy the zoo - you can get closer to the big cats like lions and tigers than other zoos such as in San Antonio.
