Hi

I am looking for a science supply store in Austin. Searched around but didnt find anything where you can walk in and get supplies for kids science projects (e.g. small amounts of chemicals to do home chemistry projects etc). Ofcourse, I can buy those big chemistry kits (and I have in the past) but I'd like to be able to get a-la-carte materials [e.g we were looking for copper sulphate to make crystals]

Thanks in Advance,
Photobuddy

Lots of Game Stores . . . but not so much any educational or science?

Go figger.

We are raising a generation of Vidoits -- not Scientists, yunno.

Find anything you can tolerate in the various on-line suppliers?

Oh I understand.

[Rant On]

I came up with the "Vidiots" title to sneer at my own kids.

Ex-military, so I can do a fair mock of a drill-sergeant (instead of maggots, etc.)

Get off your butts you pack of vidiots.

Geezzz. DS(s). Wii. The littlest one got me out of bed this morning to watch a Pokemon Video. Mildly Texas, I suppose -- Pokemon Hoe-Down is going on in the background, now.

Granna keeps buying the crap for them. Dollar (This or That) Stores. That is what we have now. Wall to Wall Crap for the Great Wall of China. But Science Stores? . . . maybe not.

[/Rant End]

Maybe some folks down towards Dripping Springs might have some ideas.

When we were looking at being in Austin, long-term, we noted they seem to have a pretty active Home School group

At our hacienda we did various salt crystals earlier this year.

But you are correct -- Copper Sulfate is the pretty one, and all long-loves best start as affairs of the heart -- not the mind.

And the entire Hardware/Science/Art store etc., sort of "sets" the mood.

We are looking at doing a series of Renewable Energy kiddo projects this fall. Part of a Girl Scout "journey" series -- if anyone is interested, I can put that stuff on-line.

Check around at the gardening centers if you are looking for copper sulfate. They may/may not have any but give it a shot.

Check out Teacher Heaven if you haven't done so already... they should have science kits, and if I remember correctly they have some a la carte items as well - a limited supply but you should be able to find something. There's one on Lamar/Ben White in the same area as Target.
