some people suggested that I go to BARBERS for haircuts because barbers specialize in mens hair.

By the way, regarding haircuts: there is a place called Hairy Situations on South Congress.
I've heard it's great if you're willing to pay the price.

Huh? Is HS for women only?

I've never been to Hairy Situations. Is that an expensive place?

I go to Keith Kristopher Salon on Bee Caves. Micah does an excellent job! After I went in, she cut my boyfriends hair and he had good results too. They use Kerestase and J.Crew products. Good luck!

This may sound hard to believe, but I've found that the more I pay for a haircut, the worse it is. Fast Freddies $5 cut (I think it's more now) was always a good place when I wore my hair long.

Now I just have it buzzed with a number 3 every few months so it doesn't matter.

Try giving some loose change or a buck or two to a homeless person every now and then. You'll feel good about it and it will lift your spirits and make you a luckier person in life. Trust me.

Steve

HA! I was just about to post about Hairy Situations, it's great, but $$...you get what you pay for. Try Ann Kelso right up the street on S. Congress, it's awesome. Fantastic Sam's etc. is ok if you get a basic style and for kids.

On the haircut front, I'd go along with Birds on S Lamar. They did a decent job on my thinning locks and its a cool joint as well. Not a bad price but then I'm from London where anything more than a hatchet job will cost you 15 quid these days!

From a humanist point of view no one likes to see homeless people on the streets, whatever their circumstances, but those in Austin are far less scary than those in SFO or as threatening as those in London.

Austin Steve has it right. A buck or two now & then means little to most people and that good karma will come whizzing back.

My Uncle's partner is a high-end stylist but I can't remember the name of his salon. He's highly regarded but pretty expensive.

I'm telling you, if you're losing your hair and you have the right head...get rid of your hair. I shaved it off 12 years ago and have never looked back. I'm not gay, but I do get lots a guys hitting on me A lot of ladies like it as well...but of course only my wife's opinion matters

I agree 100% with twange. Shave your head and pump iron. Of all the things in life that can cause stress, why let something as silly as your hair bother you?

As for the homeless, while I agree in theory with those who are saying to give to them because it will make you feel good, all you're really doing when you give money to a bum is perpetuating a bad situation. It's a short-term fix that helps them get their next high or their next bottle of malt liquor, but at the end of the day, they're still on the street begging for money. If you really want to help them, help them help themselves. Direct them to the closest rescue mission or Goodwill Career Center -- somewhere that will help them get on their feet and become productive members of society. And if you MUST give, give something like bottled water or a McDonalds Arch Card, not cash which will more than likely be spent on booze and drugs.
