Hi, everyone! I'm looking to move to San Marcos this summer. Thus far my internet apartment search has turned up almost nothing but those giant complexes, and I hate those things. I'd like to find a smaller house to rent, or a unit in a house that's been converted to apartments (older is great!), or even a quiet little duplex. Please tell me such places exist in San Marcos. If so, where would those types of rentals be listed? Craigslist seems to be monopolized by the same two or three big companies/agencies advertising over and over. Thanks in advance!

I lived in San Marcos for college- I have not lived there in 6 years, but there's plenty of places there with character. The "huge" complexes aren't even that huge. You might just want to contact a realtor there and go from there. San Marcos is still small, it has many years before it's some huge place. It's definitely grown a lot since I started there in 2000, but it's got a ways to go.
