TdF (non)statement:

Quote:
PARIS (AP) -- The organizers of the Tour de France say they will wait to see what happens before commenting on Lance Armstrong's case.

Armstrong said Thursday that he would not pursue arbitration in the doping case brought against him by USADA, causing his seven Tour de France titles to be stripped Friday by the American agency.

But the International Cycling Union says it wants USADA to explain why Armstrong should lose his titles.

Amaury Sport Organization, which runs the world's most prestigious race, said Friday that it would not comment until it had heard more from both of the bodies.
Not that it won't happen, it very well might in the near future, but that is like the German's saying Dirk doped while playing in the NBA, so they are going to void his NBA championship.

So at this point, at least, it is a mistake to say he's lost his Tour de France medals.
Essentially they do - the doping is policed by each athlete's country doping authority. The USADA has acted to ban and strip LA of his victories. UCI will almost certainly comply with this (they would automatically complied if LA had submitted to a hearing and there was a finding). This is all a formality at this point. It's possible that a challenge will be made in the CAS - which is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to reverse an uncontested ruling. CAS has the ultimate authority on these issues.

It's not like this at all. LA submitted to USADA authority when he became a professional cyclist and competed in events in which they have jurisdiction. There is no equivalent anti-doping international agreement in professional basketball.

Well, but if it was as cut and dried as you want to convince us all that it is, we wouldn't have the hesitancy to put a fork into it that we're seeing from the bodies that make the ultimate decision.

By refusing arbitration, the matter against him remains unproven, does it not?

Steve

Best line: "I could go the attempted humor route here and note that Austin, with statues of Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughan, has a tradition of honoring local dopers."

If you want to go the safe route and pick a grandma instead of a doper, there's always Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn Cougar Mellencamp - but they'd need longer signs.
