I heard about NASA's announcement of an Austin flyover by the space shuttle Endeavour and her 747 on last night's news. My office is just four blocks southwest of the capitol and I'm usually here by 7:00 a.m., so I made plans to try to catch a glimpse of Endeavour and her ride. Let me tell you, it was better than I expected! Around 20 of us gathered on the top (7th) floor of our parking garage. At approximately 7:40 a.m, I heard someone say "Here it comes!". To the east, you could see the 747 in the distance, coming in low. What was amazing was we expected it to fly just north of us, but it flew directly overhead. When it passed over us, we all had to look straight up to see the underbelly of the 747 and it was LOUD! Endeavour/the 747 were escorted by a fighter jet, largely ceremonial, I'd guess. We were able to watch them approach, fly overhead, then depart westward, towards the Hill Country, before banking towards the left and disappearing in the distance. What a memory!

Anyone else get to enjoy a little bit of history in the making this morning???
