From the Statesman tonight:

Breaking news: I-35 shut down north of Buda
Austin police report all lanes of 13000 S. Interstate 35, north of Buda, are shut down due to vehicle fire.

That's one heck of a way to drum up Toll Road business.

I just moved to Cedar Creek and picked up a couple of tags. It certainly made going to Ikea in Round Rock a lot quicker, and if I ever end up having to get a job in North Austin I'll likely be taking it daily.

(I just wonder when the hell the 71-Riverside interchange and all the road widening/adding in Bastrop will finish up?)

The new stretch of 130 is free until Armistice day..

Texas' 85-MPH toll road opens weeks ahead of schedule

"Armistice Day"? I think you may have missed the 1954 memo calling it "Veterans Day".

Wasn't SH130 supposed to alleviate all the congestion on I-35, particularly with truck traffic? Yeah, a lot of good that did!

I still say the near daily closing of some part of IH 35 just might encourage folks to by-pass the Interstate as it goes by Austin.

Of course, NOW they tell us about the hundreds of feral hogs roaming the area...running across the highway in packs. At 85mph, THAT could be messy!

I would imagine more trucks will use the 'by-pass' now that it's open farther south. It's expensive; but if I were trying to get from Georgetown to San Antonio during any sort of rush hour, I'd sure be looking at that toll road to save some time and headaches.

It's been open from Georgetown to Buda for quite some time now (I know, we live just north of the north entrance and have used it to visit our son in San Antonio on holidays), and there's just not that many trucks on it. Whether truckers will use it to get to 10 I would think would depend on which side of San Antonio they're going to and if they have stops in between Austin and San Antonio for deliveries.
