I have worked near that area of Rundberg/I-35 for six years and it's fine during the day. However, as a female, I would NOT want to be out walking alone at night, and I would not feel safe living there alone. Crime is everywhere, without a doubt, but I wouldn't voluntarily put myself in the center of an area where it is known to be higher.

I actually lived in that area literally 30 years ago, as did friends of ours, another family with young children (on opposite sides of I35). At that time, it was not a high income neighborhood, but I felt perfectly comfortable walking down the sidewalk with my two young children, visiting friends (even at night!), shopping in the area, etc. and there were no drugs, gangs, prostitute problems that I could see living there every day.

So I seriously doubt that you have been reading the same article for 30 years now. I know I didn't read anything like that back then and I had more reason than you would have to have done so.

Let's at least go back to Indigo's original question, and figure out which IRS building she's heading.

From the top of my head, there are at least two IRS offices scattered through Austin, with large campus off I-35 near St. Edward's, and another further down south where Sam's Club used to be located.

I doubt she's around anymore, but let's at least figure out WHERE exactly she'll be....before we discuss crime rates.

Good thing posts #2,3, 4 and 5 of this thread discussed that very topic.

What kind of lifestyle are you looking for, we can probably be more helpful if we know more.

Initially I am wanting an area known to be safe and affordable for a government workers salary. Lifestyle is more of a home-body type of life-style........... Then, as I get to know the city, I plan on purchasing a home. I will be moving from Las Vegas, so I'm very familiar with property crimes, stalkers, 'victimless crimes', and pan-handling. I'd like to live in an area where that isn't happening

Naturally all major cities have their 'bad' spots.....and we can go into a endless debate on the why and how it get's to be that way........ very sad indeed. But basically I'd like to find out about residential areas that are close to the IRS/Govt workers building.

Thank you for your help-

But we still do not know WHICH IRS location you will be working at! There is more than one, the largest is at I-35/Woodland, from there you could live in south, southwest or southeast Austin. But that won't help you, if your work location is in NW!

Yes, that would be helpful for you to know which building..... I'd like to know myself I've been told it could be either/or at this point in time; they have not made a decision as to which one yet. So looks like I'll need answers for both/all

Thanks again-
