If you choose Austin, the best school districts are Eanes and Lake Travis. We personally chose Lake Travis and live in the Lakeway area. We really enjoy it. It's a nice community and very friendly. We are currently buying a new home in our area and, if you guys decide to purchase here, our realtor is great (in case you'll need references in the future)

NY just too expensive, over-crowded, and over liberal.

And as for staying in NY, if you have a family you need to go upstate (orange, dutchess, ulster counties) just so you're not killed with expenses. If money is no object then long island. And if no families, then parts of brooklyn and queens are OK. Again if money is no object, then manhattan of course
