Other cities have ther famous street corners - Hollywood and Vine, Broadway and 7th, Haight and Ashbury. Does Austin have one - if so, where?

The 'Y' in Oakhill is the first intersection that comes to mind in Austin when I think of 'named' intersections. Not sure I can think of another 'named' one off-hand, might have to chew on that one a bit....

I'd nominate 6th and Lamar as well.

What about Congress at 11th - right in front of the Capitol? That's "central Downtown" if there ever was ...
Others would be (already stated) 6th and/or 12th at Lamar, Congress and Riverside, Burnet and 183 ... to name but a few ...
Those were always "iconic" to locals.

Perfectly emblamtic of the sprawl that is most of Austin.

The only ones that come to mind are of the more infamous category:

12th & Chicon
Lamar and Rundberg

Not sure Austin has any famous intersections. Maybe 2222 & 360? Perhaps in 20 years that will seem like it was the Haight-Ashbury for tech entrepreneurs.

Instead of a block, we have famous street (which is really a famous few blocks).

Since I've lived here it's been 6th & Congress.

Don't know why any noobs should try to change that.

6th & Congress feels like the epicenter of Austin. The place where I see the most pedestrian activity on any given day.

Congress & (the)Colorado(river)

6th and Congress is a good choice but it doesn't feel all that iconic to me. I'd say 6th and Brazos is more interesting, you've got the Driskill and offices meeting Buffalo Billiards & the start of dirty 6th. But most iconic in all of Austin? hmm... good question.

The Austinite of 1891 says Speedway and 45th is "perfectly emblematic of the sprawl that is most of Austin." It is all in your perspective.

Plus, the Y was an intersection before there was house one within five miles - just the turn past the Big Wheel or Convict Hill Steak House, on the way to the lake.

You may now return your soapbox to its original position.
