Hi,

I was at the intersection changing lanes from left to "left turn only" lane to take a left turn at traffic light. While I was changing lane exactly where the left-only lane begins, another car who must have been driving on the "middle lane" side swiped me. He hit my car at the edge of front hood, driver side wheel (rim) and at the end of my driver side door. his car got damaged on passenger side door. My insurance is telling me that even though he might have been driving on middle lane and even though no one should be on my left side, it was my fault not looking at left and hence it is 100% my fault. I think I followed rules. Is this really my fault? can I contest insurance decision? Please advice.

Generally speaking, no, not without spending a ton of money to go 'outside' the system. Basically, it will cost you much, much more in the short and long term to contest.

It is nigh on impossible to get an insurance company to change this - you were likely found 51-60% at fault for this. Particularly since the damage to the other vehicle was on the side and not the front.

Sure sounds like you hit him. How else would the front corner of your car collide with his passenger side door?

you are completely at fault. you should have noticed that car because you are attempting a left turn.

Have to agree on this one, if you didn't look to see him and you merged into the lane you're going to be found at fault.

This is one of those times where you should be thankful you have insurance to pay off the claim. If you had to defend this you would in all likelihood lose anyway and owe a bunch of legal fees to boot.

Let the insurance pay the claim and get on with life. I'd say that even if you thought you were 100% in the right. At the end of the day it's not worth your time or emotional energy to fight it.
