Hello folks,

Does anyone know the kind of trees along S.Lakeline Blvd between Cypress Creek Rd and Buttercup Creek Rd. that show different colors. Seems like they shed leaves during winter, but they display very nice colors during fall. We would like to plant that tree in our backyard.

Thanks

There's a few different kinds - mostly White Oak, Red Oak and Chinquapin Oak. Might be a few Monterrey Oaks sprinkled in there as well.

Thanks for your response. I googled the types of Oaks you suggested, but none of them look like the one I am talking about (kinda conical in shape). I guess I should take a picture and upload. Unfortunately, google street view took pictures during winter, so there are no leaves on the tree, or else I could have just shown you street view.

The Monterrey Oaks will grow in that shape when they're young, but they're probably not the ones creating that color. Great tree to have for our area, since they're extremely drought tolerant and provide tons of shade.

I'll take a look - heading over that way tomorrow morning

Are they already showing color? Can't imagine what tree would do that this time of year. ???

Bald Cypress maybe?

And the ones along that stretch are fairly young still. They still have that pyramid-shape.

I need to visit our former Red Maple...gorgeous color for about a week before all the leaves fell...depending on rain, wind, etc. Was told that wasn't a great tree for around here, but ours was flourishing...beautiful tree.

I think those ones could be maples. I'll grab a leaf and check it out.

Default Pictures

I was driving through Avery Ranch and saw similar trees to the one on S.Lakeline and took pictures.

The last 2 pictures are from the HEB parking lot on 620 & Anderson Mill Rd. Although they look similar, the leaves were just a little different. Also the direction of the leaves look different.

May be all 4 are of the same kind?
