Austin Mexican restaurant question (Dallas, Round Rock: buy, prices, food)

Does anyone know of a good place to get enchiladas with regular red sauce? If you happen to be from California you'll know what I mean, since that's what they serve everywhere in CA.

Here it seems to be mostly beef gravy or chili con carne sauce, or sometimes ranchero which I believe is a chunky salsa-type sauce?

The beef gravy and chili are good, but I'm craving ones that are smothered in red sauce.

I'd appreciate any help and am open to anywhere in the greater Austin area but the closer to Round Rock the better.

Im not from California, but I think I know what you're talking about.

Try Regio El Pollo (i think thats the name of it. If not, its close) on the NW corner of South First and Stassney. And there's another one on Wm Cannon just east of Congress at the stop light at Circle "S" Drive, next to the Jack In The Box. They have enchiladas with red sauce, green sauce and mole. I never had the green sauce enchiladas but the red sauce enchiladas and mole enchiladas are both very good.

Its not a TexMex place but a genuine Mexican place. Good menu with lots of choices, good food and reasonable prices.

Genuine Mexicans food doesn't include enchiladas. Just go local taquerias where they don't speak English for a little taste of authentic MeXican. Very good very cheap and I have seen that sauce. They serve a couple gringo plates like enchiladas. Stay away from taqueria arandas. It's a chain and not very good.

I'm not sure they have one here but I'm Dallas there is a place called Veracruz and it was billed as Indian, myan and Mesoamerican food. Very authentic and they did have that sauce. If your ever in Dallas.

That's not true.

Enchiladas - based on the Spanish verb enchilar (to coat with chile) were originally from Mexico. The chile con carne version is obviously the predominant kind in Texas, unfortunately for OP and others of us that prefer a red colorado style sauce.
