Hi All,

I am looking to move to Austin soon (Leander area), and my job will be at the address below. How bad is traffic from Leander to my destination.

717 E Parmer Ln, Austin, TX 78753

I am moving from VA (Ashburn, Tysons corner area), For those of you who lived in both places, is it as bad as VA ??

What can you guys tell me about Leander ? is it one of the new area, does it have a target, walmart, Costco (most important), Nice parks for kids, nice trails (I love running), Good schools, Good food (I love kabobs, and barbecue food).

How many baby geckos do you find in your house often ? (Wife's request) we don't like them, especially in our homes. They are so hard to catch/trap.

Austin weather - We know its hot there. But Humid or dry, or both.

Metro station, is there a metro station in Leander ?

Leander, Austin - is it flat, is it green, or is it hilly.

Thank u all very much.

No. People here love to complain about the traffic. There is nothing here to compare to 395, Dulles Tollway, 66, Beltway from Tyson's to 270 split, or anything else in DC.

A lot depends on WHERE in Leander. You could be right behind the Costco and be in Leander; but why would you want to live 17-25 miles from your 'destination'?

Even I am moving to Leander from SFO. I can provide my thoughts which I analyzed so far.

There is a walmart construction going on in intersection of 1431 and Palmer rd, and Costco availablei in 183 and 1431, which both are closer to Leander. Also it matters that in which part of Leander you are looking at.

Are schools are important to you? In that case crystal falls, new community - Travisso, and other communities west of Ronald Reagan blvd/Palmer doesn't have good rating currently.

Some part of Cedar Park feeds into RRISD, which the schools are ranked better for ex, Ranch @Brushy Creek, Pearson Place.

What is the primary reason looking for moving into Leander? Accordingly I can provide more information.

Some areas in Leander is hill country.

Why Leander when you work in 78753? Is there something special about Leander? There are many closer neighborhoods and areas that offer basically the same thing. Except for Cosco I guess. While it's not as far as downtown it is murder going across Parmer in the morning.

This.

And there is another Costco, at Great Hills, which is closer to Parmer than anything in Leander and is surrounded by very desirable neighborhoods and schools and a lot more of everything you're asking for.

The only reason to live in Leander is because of the schools. From my research Leander has very good school ratings. or am I wrong ? My wife and I have 2 kids, and we want an area that has all amenities. Like nice parks, good schools, good food, great neighborhoods, close to shopping, etc.

What you are speaking of, school-wise, is Leander ISD, not Leander the city. You'll find little rhyme or reason to the school districts in terms of their orientation to their 'namesake' cities. Our house in Avery Ranch was literally on the border between Round Rock ISD and Leander ISD, yet we were in the city of Austin!

Additionally, as many will suggest here on C-D, your children will go to a SCHOOL, not a DISTRICT. While different districts behave differently, it's important not to assume all schools within a district will be the same(whatever 'same' means, school-wise).

You're not wrong, but good schools aren't exclusive to Leander. They're all over the place. Living in Leander and commuting down to GM would be a HUGE mistake.

Tons of other options that would be half the distance.

Leander ISD stretches across the cities of Leander, Cedar Park, parts of Georgetown, parts of Round Rock, and parts of North Austin. Some schools in the district are rated better than others.

The most important factors that need to be known are your price range and your wants for the actual home.
