For anyone familiar with Spring Creek BBQ (the restaurant chain with locations in Houston and Dallas), what restaurant in Austin is most similar? Specifically, my young daughter loves the brisket and mac 'n cheese.

Please, no critical comments about Spring Creek BBQ. I am trying to smooth some relocation trauma for my child.

Thanks!

There's nothing quite like Spring Creek in Austin, but being familiar with it, I'd say Pokejos is probably the closest you'll come. They do have mac 'n cheese and their meat is not overly smoky. Their ribs aren't quite as good and they don't have those decadent rolls, but the Texas toast (ask for it) is pretty good.

We went to PoK-e-Jo's. My daughter loved the mac-n-cheese but we both thought the brisket was really bland. My son ate the pulled pork and he said it was very good so we will try that next.

Bonus points for the Texas Toast - that was tasty.

Maybe you can make a fun thing of it, trying and sampling a bunch of different BBQ joints over the next several months, until you find a winner.

Rudy's has cream style corn that beats Mac n Cheese any day. Give it a try.

If you're near Bee Cave, try Schmidt Family BBQ... a co-venture of the family behind the two best BBQ places in Lockhart... Smitty's and Kreuz Market.
