Hi, I am moving to Austin from Seattle and I am trying to figure out what the right neighborhood for me would be. Here's what I want:
  • Highly walkable
  • Not too loud and crazy, but bars and coffee shops within walking distance.
  • A grocery store nearby
  • Friendly neighborhood vibe.
  • Post-college 20s and 30s scene.
What do you recommend?

Austin is not a highly walkable city, so we need more info. Where is your job going to be located and what is your budget?

Budget?

Oh nevermind. Better not come to Austin, Flee -- there are white female/Asian male couples here as well. Shucks... spend some time traveling maybe.

I can't use the quote function since you managed to get that thread locked but C&P works fine for just one of your nuggets.

I get disgusted when a girl starts grilling me about work and trying to guess my income. (It's always much higher than I let on.) In fact, Seattle is the only place I've ever seen white girls with Asian guys.

You might want to consider living in Elgin or Bastrop. Elgin offers a classic small town feeling with residents walking in the evening or riding bicycles; gathering on Main Street for parades; and getting to know all their neighbors. The people living are usually a mix of retirees and middle-aged and young couples. Also, the market is strong for homes on acreage and for older historic homes, and prices are affordable. But if you want to experience country living, Bastrop would be nice. You'll get to experience the natural beauty of the trees and the pines, the four golf courses, and the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa.

Live in Central Austin if you can afford it. Has pretty much what you're looking for. Maybe South Lamar/South 1st. near Downtown.

You'll do ok in ok in 78701, most parts of 78702, 78703, 78704 and 78705. Also consider 78722 and some parts of 78723 and 78751.

Other than that - pretty much nothing for walkability.

So, let's get this straight, if we all understand you correctly:
Walkable but quiet, bars and coffee with a friendly neighborhood vibe, not near UT but younger crowd. You do realize that walkable and quiet but with bars and youth are generally not in the same neighborhood. Maybe you need to pick where you want to live and pick where you want to play with the understanding that they may not be the same neighborhood? (Or maybe Seattle is more to your liking than you realized)

That's not true at all. There are plenty of quiet neighborhoods in the zip codes mentioned by Komeht that fit the OPs criteria of quiet walkable neighborhoods.

Hyde Park, Bouldin, French Place, Travis Heights all come to mind. As long as the OP has coin, he is fine.

Bet we never hear from him again though.
