My husband and I are trying to relocate from SoCal. We are looking for a place that’s nice, safe, has good schools, and affordable. I have an at home daycare and my husband is an auto mechanic. What cities and states would you recommend? We are thinking about Henderson Nevada, Austin Texas, Little Rock Arkansa, or Utah. Which do you think will suite are needs?

Austin proper is affordable compared to California. But, it is also unaffordable for Texas. What is your budget?

What are you looking for? I moved here from So. Cal ( Mission Viejo) in Aug. we looked for the areas that looked the most like where we where living and had a community with parks, good schools ect... We now live in Cedar Park just north of Austin and we really like it. I recommend the Austin area, Austin is so much like Southern California in so many ways.
It is now home away from home and in a few years when we get used to the differences I am sure it will be home.

So many Austinites have regretted the day that would be said. I agree that the suburbs are but not the city proper.

According to CNN Money best places to live, the most affordable and best quality city to live in, if Affordable housing is your top priority is Northbrook, OH. It is a suburb of Cincinnati and the average home price is around $80,000. I know this is not anything you listed but if the main reason you are moving is affordable housing this is the place to go. Of the places you listed Little Rock would be the most affordable. If you come up with a town in Utah I could also compare it to the rest of the towns in your list. As of now Austin is the most expensive on your list.

Thanks for your advise! Well, we want to try to live off $6000 a month. Including rent, 3 car payments, car insurance, health insurance, food, gas, water, trash, ect. And we are trying to find a 2-3 bedroom house for about $1000. How are the taxes out there? .....As far as cities in Utah, we not really sure. We just heard it was really cheep.

Not cheap. If you want to live in Austin, I can't see you spending 1000 per month for what you are looking for. Property taxes are high. About 2.5 per $100 of assessed value. A 175K house will be around 4200 in property taxes.

I believe that Henderson, Nevada (near Las Vegas) would be more expensive than Austin.
