I know that U-Haul has a service where you can request assistance in unloading at the end of your move. You can go the cheaper route and try to find someone who knows someone who heard of someone that would do it, but you do run some risk. The service that U-Haul provides is probably insured and bonded in some manner or form, but I would check into it first.

I think this is the site that Derek is suggesting. I've used it a couple of times for local moves and have had positive experiences both times, once to load a truck in San Francisco, and once to load and unload a truck in San Diego that I drove across town. You can enter in the dates that you need help unloading and it will give you a list of available companies with their rates and customer reviews. This is the site affiliated with Uhaul.

We moved here in August from SoCal. We used an independent guy (one or two guys) that did a great job, if you just want help unloading. DM me for the name.

Easiest is just to drive over to Home Depot and hire a couple of the day workers.

The emove thing is great. We did the exact same thing: packed and loaded ourselves(with the help of several friends), unpacked the reasonable items ourselves and hired two guys for the brutal stuff once we got here. We used Ryan's Reliable Movers(you'll see them listed there). I think it cost us about $130 for two + hours. The one guy got sick(heat exhaustion I think) hauling one of our heavy items 3 floors up ...but he rallied They were great.

We rented a Uhaul in CA. The drive is long and boring. We had 3 pugs and a baby, so we planned to stop three nights..but ended up only stopping two nights. If you can do it, just stop once in El Paso and drive the rest of the way. What part of SoCal are you in?

Hi cub77cub
I am in Huntington Beach now. I know it is going to be a long drive. I plan to stop one night but I don't know where. I will take off HB around 8AM and stop for a night rest around 6PM. How far can I get for 10 hours of driving, I don't know. Then take off at 6AM in the morning. I need all sugesstions for driving from SoCal to Austin.
