I have a very shady garden and was wondering if anyone has had any success with growing fuchsias here. My main concern is that they are a bit more water hungry than I'd like and I've heard they might wilt in the summer heat. Any feedback appreciated.

Fuchsia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They have a beautiful flower, that is for sure. I do not have any experience with growing them here. From what I've read the heat is too much for them. However, if you want to purchase a hanging plant and put it in complete shade it might work but I kinda doubt it because of the heat.

While beautiful, I don't think Fuchsias are a good choice for our climate. Even in a basket, you'd probably need to water them 1-2 times per day to keep them happy in the summer. I would contact the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and ask for a native alternative.

I don't think Fuchsias could survive the cold in the winter. You need to put it in a larger container and move it back to garage in the cold days.

There are so many beautiful flowering natives in Texas. Make a trip to one of the many native nurseries around and find out what would be best for your setting.
